MANILA – A total of 17 females are among the latest batch of prospective Philippine Navy (PN) officers and enlisted personnel who started their military training.

PN spokesperson Commander Benjo Negranza, in a statement Wednesday, said these females along with 51 males belong to the Naval Officers Candidate Course (NOCC) Class 38 from the Naval Education, Training, and Doctrine Command in San Antonio, Zambales and were turned over for training by the Navy Personnel Management Center (NPMC).

These personnel took their oath in a ceremony at the Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown in Fort Bonifacio on Tuesday.

The NPMC also turned over 227 candidate sailors belonging to the Sailor Basic Course (SBC) Classes 22, 23, 24, and 25 to the Brigade Training and Doctrine Center (BTDC) of the Naval Combat Engineer Brigade.

“It is a process that changes boys and girls to men and women. It is a necessary step to bring the best out of every one of you and utilize your potential to improve and enhance the Armed Forces,” PN chief of Naval Staff Commodore Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta said in his address to the prospective Navy personnel.

He also likened these trainees to "precious diamonds that are being “subjected to immense temperature and pressure to form into better versions of yourselves.”

Ezpeleta also emphasized to the trainees their future roles in the modern and multi-capable PN while urging them “to give your all, help us in this ambition and support our Navy in achieving the mission and vision that we aim for.” (PNA)
