BUTUAN CITY – More local government units in Surigao del Sur were recognized by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for their high revenue collection during the first semester of the year.

On Wednesday, the BIR Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 106 said the Surigao del Sur provincial government and Tandag City were among those recognized by their office for efficient revenue collections.

Both local government units were awarded with the Tatak ng Kabayanihan, Pagbabayad ng Buwis sa Bayan plaque of appreciation on Tuesday.

“Tandag is recognized by the BIR for its withholding tax remittances for the first semester this year, thereby helping the BIR Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 106 in achieving its collection goal,” the city government said in a statement Wednesday.

BIR-Caraga Director Jose Eric Furia and BIR RDO No. 106 acting Revenue District Officer Paul Villamor handed over the award to Tandag Mayor Roxanne Pimentel on the same day.

Tandag City managed to collect some PHP13 million in withholding tax remittances during the period.

Surigao del Sur Gov. Alexander Pimentel also received Tuesday the same Plaque of Appreciation handed by BIR RDO No. 106.

During the same period, the province collected some PHP115 million in withholding tax remittances.

Also on Tuesday, the BIR recognized the high remittances of the local government of Tagbina in Surigao del Sur.

The municipality collected some PHP3.4 withholding tax remittances from January to June this year. (PNA)
