MANILA – Several areas in the country will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said Thursday.

Such weather condition will prevail over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Flash floods or landslides are likely in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. weather advisory.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate winds and moderate seas will prevail over Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and the western section of Mindanao.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Nanmadol is could enter the country either Thursday night or Friday, and will be given the local name, "Josie".

PAGASA is not expecting it to directly affect the country's weather condition since "Josie" will remain far from the landmass.

It could, however, enhance the southwest monsoon that may cause rains over most parts of the country in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said. (PNA)
