DAVAO CITY – At least 500 individuals combined corn farmers and fisherfolk here benefited from a PHP3,000 fuel subsidy extended by the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11).
In a statement Friday, DA-11 said the farmers and fisherfolk received the subsidy during Thursday's caravan at the Davao Food Terminal Complex in Toril.
DA-11 said the subsidy aims to "increase and enhance" the beneficiaries’ productivity and income and mitigate the effects of oil price hikes.
In a previous interview, DA-11 Director Abel James Monteagudo said the fuel discount card will help ease the impact of rising oil prices in the agricultural sector.
"Even though they faced agricultural hurdles like fuel price hikes and soaring prices of the fertilizers, our key players, the farmers remained resilient," he said.
Monteagudo also advised the farmers to always take the initiative to ask for support from local government units to further advance their sector.
To qualify for the fuel subsidy, corn farmers and fisherfolk must be registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture, included in the Farmers and Fisherfolk Registry System, and own machinery with proof of ownership. (PNA)
