 BIR exceeds August collection goal

MANILA  The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Friday announced it collected PHP228.938 billion for the month of August, surpassing its target by 4.46 percent.

In a statement, the BIR, which is tasked to collect around 70 percent of revenues for the government, said its August collection is higher by PHP9.766 billion than its target of PHP219.172 billion.

It added the latest collection is also higher by 23.03 percent, or PHP42.8 billion, compared to its revenues in the same period last year.

Based on Bureau of Treasury (BTr) data, BIR’s August 2021 revenues amounted to PHP186.1 billion.

In the first eight months this year, it collected PHP1.559 trillion, up by around 12.3 percent compared to its PHP1.388 trillion revenues in the same period last year.

“Said collections represent more than 98 percent attainment of the BIR’s emerging goal of PHP1.586 trillion for the said period,” the BIR added. (PNA)
