MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) reported improved user experience for its Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) online portal days after its partnership with Dermalog, a biometrics and online security company.

In a Laging Handa briefing on Friday, lawyer Alex Abaton, the legal special assistant to the LTO assistant secretary, said reports from all LTO offices showed that documentary processing has accelerated and is faster compared to the first two weeks of September.

“Maayos na po iyong ating sistema, iyong downtime natin hindi na po katulad noong mga nagdaang linggo (Our system is doing well, downtime is not similar from what we had in previous weeks),” Abaton said.

He added that the LTO Steering Committee and LTO Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III have “put up the best minds” in the agency for the continued improvement of the LTMS.

“Makakaasa po ang ating mga kababayan na sa mga susunod na araw, mas bibilis at mas gaganda pa po ang ating serbisyo (In the next few days, our citizens can expect faster and better service),” he said.

He noted that the system slowdown during the first two weeks of September was caused by the increased number of transactions being processed by the system compared to the usual number of transactions during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Medyo dumarami po iyong number ng mga registration -- iyong volume, sa madaling salita, tumaas po iyan. At kaya po nagkaroon siguro ng tinatawag natin na nabubulunan na iyong system (We are getting more registrations -- the volume increased. That’s why a bottleneck happened),” he said.

On Tuesday, the LTO announced its partnership with Dermalog to solve recent problems with the LTMS that resulted in the slow processing of requests for driver’s licenses.

In addition to improving the response time of the LTMS, the LTO is looking to activate the motor vehicle registration information system on the LTMS for users to register their vehicles online and reduce queuing in LTO offices. (PNA)
