Ex-NPA rebel facing various charges in Ilocos nabbed in Bulacan

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A former member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), who is wanted for a number of crimes, was arrested during a manhunt operation in Bulacan on Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Cesar R. Pasiwen, regional director of the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3), said on Sunday that Oscar Agsi, 52, alias Ka Amy, of Gregorio del Pilar town is Ilocos Sur, was nabbed in Barangay Pinagbakahan, Malolos City, Bulacan by virtue of the warrant of arrest issued by Presiding Judge Richard T. Domingo of Regional Trial Court Branch 23 in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

Pasiwen said Agsi is a former member of Komiteng Larangang Gerilya South Ilocos Sur (KLG-SIS) of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC).

The former rebel is wanted for violations of Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, with a PHP100,000 recommended bail, and Section 3 of Republic Act 9516, the Unlawful Manufacture, Sales, Acquisition, Disposition, Importation or Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device Act, with no bail recommended.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The NDF has been formally designated as a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, citing it as “an integral and inseparable part” of the CPP-NPA created in April 1973. (PNA)
