DSWD disburses P69-M cash aid to 24K students in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – Some PHP69.5 million worth of educational assistance was released to over 24,000 students in the Caraga Region from Aug. 20 to Sept. 17, the regional Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD-13) office said Monday.

“During the period, a total of PHP69,544,000 educational assistance was released in the Caraga Region,” DSWD-13 said in a statement.

The agency said the latest in the series of distributions was carried out on Saturday involving 8,599 students who benefited from the PHP22 million financial aid.

During Saturday’s distribution activity, 1,794 students from Agusan del Norte benefited from the program; Agusan del Sur followed with 2,596 students; Surigao del Sur, 2,237; Surigao del Norte, 1,574; Dinagat Islands, 398.

A total of PHP4,284,000 worth of aid was disbursed in Agusan del Norte; followed by Agusan del Sur with PHP6,689,000; Surigao del Sur, PHP5,545,000; Surigao del Norte, PHP4,394,000; Dinagat Islands, 1,049,000.

So far, DSWD-13 said 24,358 students have benefited from the financial aid distributions through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

Of the total number of recipients, 6,118 are from elementary level, high school, 3,526; senior high school, 2,482; and college and vocational students, 12,232.

The agency said the releases of financial aid will continue in the region, especially for those students who have registered online, and had received text confirmation and appointments. (PNA)
