‘Dayo series’ basketball showdown set in Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – All is set for the “Dayo Series” basketball showdown Tuesday in this southern port city.

The basketball match will see the team of homegrown Zamboanga Valientes play versus the Mav’s Phenomenal Basketball YouTube sensations at the 12,000-seat Summit Center here.

Rolando Navarro Jr., Zamboanga Valientes team owner, said the homegrown talents are ready to face the Mav’s players, composed of seasoned ballers.

The Mav’s Phenomenal Basketball is the first elite skills development training camp in the Philippines that focuses on developing individual skills of basketball players through character building.

Joseph Romarate, Zamboanga Valientes team coach, said the event will provide local fans the opportunity to see the popular players of Mav’s as well as homegrown basketball players play.

The Zamboanga Valientes will field local basketball stars such as Jonathan Pareño and Jeff Bernardo.

During Monday's press conference here, Navarro said the event is "part of our program to discover new talents and provide them the opportunity to play in big leagues.”

Among the homegrown basketball players discovered by Zamboanga Valientes who are now playing in the professional league include Mike Tolomia and Mark Barroca. (PNA)
