MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced on Monday that the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) and PhilSports Complex facilities are being prepared for the use of national athletes.

National teams use the facilities inside the RMSC in Malate, Manila and the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City for training and competitions.

"We are excited to see the national athletes back in training in these facilities," PSC chairman Noli Eala said in a press statement.

He said the agency is "full steam ahead" to ensure of delivering services to the national team and grassroots partners.

RMSC’s two major facilities -- the Rizal Memorial Coliseum (RMC) and Ninoy Aquino Stadium (NAS) -- were used as government quarantine facilities and medical centers for Covid-19 patients in 2020 and are now undergoing repair and rehabilitation.

Already open for national athletes are the RMSC Baseball and Softball Field, Tennis Center, Swimming and Diving Pool, Wushu and Wrestling Gyms, Billiards, Judo Hall and the newly constructed Squash Center.

The Track and Football Stadium, where the Asian Football Federation Women’s Championship was held last July, is the venue of the ongoing Philippine Football Federation-sanctioned Philippine Football League which will run until October.

Also being readied are the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Badminton Hall and Table Tennis Center. The Ninoy Aquino Stadium is close until Sept. 30. The Philippine National Police returned control of the PhilSports’ Multi-Purpose Arena last June.

Other facilities in Philsports Complex such as Fencing Hall, Swimming Pool, Track and Field Oval and Football Field are available for the use of both national athletes and para athletes.

Athletes from kurash and karatedo teams will share the training facilities at the 2nd floor of the Philsports PSC Dining Hall. Members of the national track and field and fencing teams are staying at the PhilSports dormitories.

Eala said health safety protocols are being observed in all sports facilities. (PNA)
