MANILA – Three most wanted persons (MWPs) were arrested in a recent series of arrest warrant operations, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported on Thursday.

In a statement, CIDG chief, Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee, said the suspects Jonathan Mandap, Mario Baquelta, and Elmo Gumalog were arrested during simultaneous "Oplan Pagtugis" operations on Sept. 20.

Mandap and Gumalog, the top fugitives of the provinces of Pampanga and Pangasinan, respectively, were arrested for charges of rape with no bail recommended and acts of lasciviousness with a bail of PHP200,000.

Baquelta, Cebu City's top fugitive, is also wanted for rape with no bail recommended.

Lee said the arrested individuals are now being held in their respective arresting field units awaiting the issuance of a commitment order from the issuing court.

Meanwhile, CIDG operatives also nabbed an investment scam suspect who has been in hiding for six years in Barangay Poblacion in La Trinidad town, Benguet province on Sept. 19.

Jayniel Bernardo, 31, has an arrest warrant for estafa issued by the La Trinidad, Benguet Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 63 in August 2016, with no bail recommended.

The suspect and his accomplices allegedly defrauded 14 complainants into investing in their company and were able to take away some PHP1.3 million from them.

Bernardo is now under the custody of the CIDG Benguet for documentation prior to his return to the issuing court. (PNA)
