MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) Road Sector has installed timers with signal lanterns in 13 stops of the EDSA Busway system that will ensure the efficient movement of buses and transport of passengers.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the DOTr said the timers have three aspect signal lanterns with a two-digit timer, pole, lighting, and a traffic signal local controller complete with a detector card and loop detectors.

Nakalaan ang 30-second maximum time para sa bawat bus unit na magsasakay at magbababa ng pasahero sa mga nasabing istasyon. Awtomatiko namang mare-reset ito sa pagdating ng kasunod na bus (Thirty seconds are allotted as maximum time for each bus to load or unload passengers at these stations. The timer will automatically reset with the arrival of the next bus),” read the DOTr post.

The maximum loading and unloading time may also be calibrated or changed later based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

The bus timers have been operational since Wednesday at the following stations: Monumento, Manila Central University, and Bagong Barrio in Caloocan City; Balintawak, Muñoz, North MRT, Quezon Avenue MRT, Q-Mart, and Main Avenue-Cubao in Quezon City; Ortigas MRT in Pasig City; Guadalupe MRT and Gil Puyat in Makati City; and Taft Avenue and Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City.

The DOTr likewise reported that of 550 units authorized to operate, only 406 units are dispatched by operators daily.

Bus operators utilizing the busway are required to field 100 percent of their units.

“More buses on the Edsa Busway will mean more efficient and more convenient transport service for residents and workers in Metro Manila who ride these buses daily,” the DOTr said.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a previous interview that the improved services of the EDSA Busway and Metro Rail Transit-3, and bicycle lanes will encourage motorists to leave their vehicles and use alternative modes of transportation. (PNA)
