CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (RDRRMC) on Sunday put its operation center under “red alert status” in preparation for Super Typhoon Karding.

Cesar M. Idio, chairperson of the RDRRMC and regional director of the Office of Civil Defense-Central Luzon (OCD-3), said the provincial, city and municipal disaster councils all over the region are now closely monitoring the situation as “Karding” further intensified as it moves westward towards the northern portion of Quezon-southern portion of Aurora.

Idio said the local disaster risk reduction and management councils are directed to closely monitor the situation in their area of responsibility, conduct a pre-disaster risk assessment, prepare for possible preemptive evacuation and strengthen localized warnings to communities, among others.

He advised residents living in low-lying areas to be on alert for possible flash floods.

In Aurora, Governor Christian Noveras issued a directive prohibiting fishing, sailing, swimming, and other water-related sports activities effective immediately.

In Nueva Ecija, the provincial government designated four facilities as temporary shelters for possible evacuees. These are the Old Capitol Compound in Cabanatuan City, NEUST Gymnasium, Nueva Ecija High School Gym, and the Palayan City Convention Center.

In Tarlac, all tourism activities are suspended for Monday.

In Pampanga, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council headed by Governor Dennis Pineda activated its emergency operations center.

Pineda said the PRDRRMO has already pre-positioned its equipment for rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando said the provincial government has prepared its evacuation centers including the provincial gymnasium and the Bulacan Sports Complex to temporarily shelter residents in flood-risk areas.

In Bataan, Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III said the province’s emergency operation is now ready and the different concerned agencies are on full alert for the conduct of immediate evacuation and relief efforts.

On the other hand, Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane said they conducted a council meeting to ensure preparedness for the super typhoon.

Classes on all levels, both in public and private schools in the region have been suspended on Monday.

Likewise, work in government, except for those departments and offices involved in disaster and emergency operations, was also suspended in the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Bataan and Tarlac. (PNA)
