DSWD-7 winds down distribution of education aid to 42K students

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 7 (DSWD-7) has distributed a total of PHP112.72 million in educational assistance to 41,702 students from all levels in the Central Visayas provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

The DSWD-7 concluded its payout on Saturday, ending the distribution of the government’s educational assistance, said Leah Tagalo Quintana, DSWD-7 regional public information officer.

The payouts were held on Aug. 20 and 27, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, in the provinces of Cebu (32,334 beneficiaries); Negros Oriental (5,907); Bohol (2,974); and Siquijor (487), DSWD-7 records showed.

Of the total 41,702 beneficiaries served, 10,381 were from the elementary level, receiving PHP1,000 each; 8,519 from high school, who received PHP2,000 each; 5,904 from senior high school, who got PHP3,000 each; and 16,898 from college/vocational, who were each given PHP4,000.

The educational aid is under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program aimed at helping students from indigent families pay their tuition and other requirements in school. (PNA)
