LAOAG CITY – The body of a fisherman who went missing off the coast of this city was found Wednesday afternoon.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the fisherman, identified as 34-year-old Mike June Ranada, went fishing with other companions early Tuesday morning in the brackish waters off Barangay 34-B Gabu Norte when big waves reportedly smashed into and swept his boat away.

Fellow fishermen later found Ranada's body floating off the coast of Pasuquin town, north of Laoag, Elviro Agoo, village chief of Barangay Davila in Pasuquin said.

Authorities said the victim's body was immediately airlifted via a Philippine Air Force chopper.

The Ilocos Norte government had also earlier requested the Office of the Civil Defense to provide a helicopter to help in the search and rescue operation. (PNA)
