MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is coordinating with the provinces affected by Typhoon Karding for an emergency employment program.

DOLE Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez said the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged and Displaced Workers Program (TUPAD) will be implemented initially in two provinces in Luzon that were hit by the typhoon.

“Our Secretary (Bienvenido Laguesma) already has a directive to look into and implement it in areas that are heavily affected by the typhoon,” he said at the Laging Handa briefing on Thursday.

“In Quezon and Nueva Ecija, our regional directors are on the ground to coordinate with the affected areas,” Benavidez said.

He said they have yet to come up with an estimated number of beneficiaries of the program, which is implemented especially after a disaster or calamity.

Under the program, beneficiaries will be provided emergency employment for a minimum of 10 days up to a maximum of 90 days.

The workers will be getting the minimum wage of the region where they were employed. (PNA)
