Farmer caught with P1.8-M marijuana in Kalinga charged

TUGUEGARAO CITY – A suspected drug dealer was indicted before the prosecutor’s office here on Thursday, a day after authorities in Cagayan Valley and Kalinga arrested him with 15 kilos of dried marijuana bricks in Kalinga.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cagayan Valley head Joel Plaza said farmer Rolando Yag-ao alias Rain, 32, was arrested in a buy-bust in Barangay Agbannawag, Tabuk City, on Wednesday.

The suspect is an alleged marijuana cultivator in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Seized from Yag-ao during the operation were eight bricks of dried marijuana leaves, stalk, and fruiting tops worth PHP1.8 million, as well as PHP115,000 boodle money and a mobile phone.

The suspect was charged with the violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (PNA)
