ALAMINOS CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished constructing two flood mitigation projects in this city that would benefit residents of two villages.
In a phone interview on Thursday, DPWH 1 (Ilocos region) public information officer Esperanza Tinaza said the two projects are situated in barangays Pogo and Poblacion here.
“The one in Barangay Pogo was started in February this year and was completed on August 30 while the one in Barangay Poblacion was started in February this year and was finished by July 25,” she said.
The 424 lineal meter-long flood mitigation project along the Alaminos River in Pogo is worth PHP66.6 million under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022, she said.
“It now manages flood water flow and guards the community against flood damage,” she added.
Meanwhile, the flood mitigation structure in Poblacion has a total cost of PHP66.9 million under the GAA of 2022, Tinaza said.
“The structure is 392 linear meters long and now safeguards the nearby residential areas and agricultural lands,” she added.
Tinaza said the flood mitigation projects in the two barangays included pile driving of sheet steel piles and construction of slope protection.
“With these measures, it is expected that physical infrastructure damage will be avoided and that social and economic activities in communities will continue to prosper,” she said. (PNA)
