MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued a passenger of a Roll-on/Roll-off passenger ship who jumped overboard in waters off Baco Chico Island in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro on Thursday.

In an incident report on Friday, the PCG said 23-year-old Jomer Castillo, a resident of Odiongan, Romblon, and passenger of the ship, was reported to have jumped off the RoRo around 7:45 p.m.

A search and rescue (SAR) team from PCG District Southern Tagalog found Castillo and pulled him out of the water.

“The SAR team brought him to the Port of Calapan, then to the nearest hospital for proper medication,” it said.

It said the individual was suffering from anxiety due to a family problem that led to the suicide attempt. (PNA)
