MANILA - The City of Manila has given its full support to the Swimming League Philippines (SLP) for the staging of the Manila Swim Fest on Nov. 5 at the Philippine Columbian Association swimming pool in Plaza Dilao in Paco.

Manila Sports Council (MASCO) chairman Roel De Guzman signed a memorandum of agreement with SLP acting president Fred Ancheta to promote the city's sports program at the MASCO office on Oct. 10.

“On behalf of Manila Mayor Dr. Honey Lacuna, the city would like to be a part of the SLP grassroots program which will make the youth healthier so they can focus not only on their studies but also in sports. There are many Manilenos who became members of the Philippine team, also in swimming," De Guzman said.

Also present were SLP officer Philbert Papa, Langoy Pilipinas president Darren Evangelista and coach Jo Manoloto.

Ancheta, who also coaches a club in Alabang, said the Manila Swim Fest is among the qualifying tournaments to determine the composition of the team that will compete in upcoming international competitions.

“Our founding chairman Joan Mojdeh is very clear in the SLP mission and vision, expand the reach of our program and raise the quality of swimming in the Philippines. We can develop more youth, there is a bigger chance to get good swimmers for the national team," Ancheta said.

The Manila Swim Fest, which is open to all swimming clubs, associations, schools and individuals, features events in Class A, B, C and motivational. The team champion will receive PHP7,000 in cash while the runners-up will get PHP4,000 and PHP2,000, respectively.
