MANILA - The Philippine Army (PA) on Friday announced the appointment of Maj. Gen. Adonis Bajao as its new vice commander, replacing Maj. Gen. Camilo Ligayo who was appointed as head of the Eastern Visayas-based 8th Infantry Division.

Prior to his appointment, Bajao served as the Internal Auditor of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

He also held key positions throughout his career such as 9th Infantry Division assistant division commander; commander of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade; commander Joint Task Force General Santos of the 10th Infantry Division; and 8th Infantry Division assistant chief-of-staff for civil-military operations (CMO).

He likewise held key posts in the AFP office of the chief-of-staff for operations (OJ3, AFP).

Bajao is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1989. He also holds a Doctor of Public Administration degree from the University of the Philippines, and a Master in Public Management Major in Development Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines.

“I am confident that Maj. Gen. Bajao as the new vice commander of the PA will continue the good work and bring to completion the necessary policies in the command,” said Army commander, Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., during Bajao's installation ceremonies held last Oct. 19 at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.

229 new Army officers

Meanwhile, the Philippine Army welcomed 229 newly-commissioned second lieutenants in a graduation ceremony held last Oct. 20 at the Training and Doctrine Command headquarters at Camp O’Donnell in Capas town, Tarlac province.

Members of Officer Candidate Course (OCC) Class 56 "Ikarigatak" 2022 who completed the one-year training for Army officers include licensed pilots, electrical engineers, civil engineers, aeronautical engineers, and mechanical engineers, who hurdled the pre-entry course that includes basic military training program, officer training program and war fighting program.

Department of National Defense officer-in-charge, Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr., who served as the event's guest-of-honor and speaker, encouraged the newly-commissioned officers to always strive for the best in their new careers.

“The AFP is a distinct organization which offers various opportunities. I encourage you to actively seek tasks through which you can make the most of your skill set,” he said in his keynote speech.

“Simply put, whatever you do, avoid mediocrity. Mediocrity is your worst enemy because it kills what could have been the best. I ask you to strive for excellence at all times,” Faustino said. (PNA)
