DUMAGUETE CITY – Police in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental continues pursuit operations against the suspects in the slaying of a village councilman on Friday noon.

Col. Jonathan Pineda, officer-in-charge provincial police director, told the Philippine News Agency that he has directed the Bayawan City police chief to “exhaust all means” in identifying the perpetrators and the motive behind the killing of Diosdado Gemina.

Gemina, 52, a barangay “kagawad” of San Miguel, Bayawan City, was shot dead around 12:20 p.m. at Sitio Cabcabon in Barangay Banga of that southern city.

He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, Pineda said.

Initial investigation revealed that unidentified suspects wearing jackets and black ballcaps and riding tandem on a motorcycle shot the victim while he was driving his own motorcycle.

The motive for the shooting is still undetermined.

This is the second incident this week where a barangay official has been shot dead.

The first one was in Vallehermoso town last Oct. 17 where Cenon Cadorna, barangay councilman of Barangay Tabon, was shot dead by unidentified suspects.

Pineda said the Vallehermoso police is now preparing to file charges against the suspects who have already been identified in the killing of Cadorna. (PNA)
