MANILA – The plebiscite to ratify the conversion of the municipality of Baliwag in the province of Bulacan into a component city has been moved to an earlier date, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10849, the date of the plebiscite in the town has been set to Dec. 17, 2022, from its original date of Jan. 14, 2023.

"The Commission on Elections hereby amends Resolution No. 10834, and hereby sets the date of the plebiscite to ratify the conversion of the Municipality of Baliwag in the province of Bulacan into a component city to be known as the City of Baliwag on December 17, 2022," it said.

With this, the poll body has set a new information and campaign period, which will be from Nov. 17 to Dec. 15.

The plebiscite period will be from Nov. 17 until Dec. 24.

On Plebiscite Day, the casting of votes will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Counting and canvassing of votes will be done after the close of voting, to be followed by the proclamation of plebiscite results.

The poll body added that the rescheduling of the plebiscite at an earlier date was due to the postponement of the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to October 2023.

Republic Act 11929, or the measure converting the municipality of Baliwag in the province of Bulacan into a component city, lapsed into law on July 29. (PNA)
