LEGAZPI CITY – The Land Transportation Office in Bicol (LTO-5) suspended on Wednesday all land travels bound for the islands of Masbate, Catanduanes, Visayas, and Mindanao.
In Memorandum Circular No. 2022-008, LTO-5 chief Francisco Ranches Jr. said the temporary suspension is part of the precautionary measures against the threat of Tropical Depression Paeng.
"The temporary suspension is to avoid congestion of vehicles along Maharlika Highway and ports of Matnog, Tabaco City, Pilar, and Pio Duran," Ranches said.
He also said the suspension shall remain until tropical cyclone warning signals (TCWS) are lifted.
Meanwhile, Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol spokesperson, said sea travel in the different ports in the region is still allowed.
"In relation po sa advisory ni LTO, may mga byahe pa po ang mga barko and RoRo po. Maga stop po byahe barko and RoRo once may TCWS na po sa mga destination areas or sa mga ports of origin (In relation to LTO's advisory, ships and Roll-on, Roll off (RoRo) are still allowed. They will be canceled once there is TCWS in the destination areas or in the ports of origin)," Naz told the local media in an advisory message.
He said the suspension issued by the LTO is for those coming from Manila and other parts of Luzon going to Matnog port and other major ports in Bicol. (PNA)
