MANILA – A 59-year-old woman from Norway was arrested for allegedly trying to slip in illegal drugs worth PHP56.7 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) said on Friday.

PDEG chief Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo identified the suspect as Rose Alex Moi, a resident of Hovik, Norway, who was arrested during the interdiction operations by the operatives of PDEG-Intelligence and Foreign Liaison Division together with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group at the NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Based on its initial report, Domingo said the suspect yielded around 8.3 kg. of a white powdery substance suspected to be shabu worth PHP56.7 million.

The information received from the NAIA-IADITG said that the arrested person came from Dubai and she is traveling to Manila. Her nationality, however, was not mentioned in the report.

The contraband was found in her luggage during screening and inspection.

Also seized from the suspect was one light brown luggage containing assorted clothes and five pieces of improvised pouches made of packaging tape attached with gray duct tape each containing a white powdering substance.

The seized pieces of evidence have been submitted for qualitative and quantitative examination.

The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
