ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two New People’s Army (NPA) combatants have surrendered as they withdrew support to the rebel group in Zamboanga del Sur province, an official said Friday.

Lieutenant Benjie Tundayag, officer-in-charge of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Zamboanga del Sur Field Office, said Angelina Tomindog, 51, and Jessie Tomindog, 46, surrendered around 2 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Concepcion, San Miguel town.

Tundayag said the surrender was facilitated by the San Miguel Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict headed by Mayor Ex Ocapan with the support of the police, military, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.

The surrenderers belonged to the Barrio Revolutionary Committee of the defunct Guerrilla Front KARA of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.

They were recruited by the late Jonathan Cruz and Brando Pardillo of the GF KARA and Lorna Señara, chairperson of the Revolutionary Organization of Lumad.

During their stay in the NPA, the two said they served as couriers and lookouts of the GF KARA.

The San Miguel municipal government has extended food packs to the surrenderers as initial assistance. (PNA)
