MANILA – A total of 124 domestic and international flights have been canceled so far on Saturday, and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is now preparing for Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng which is forecast to traverse the Cavite-Metro Manila-Bataan Peninsula area within the day.
The MIAA, in a statement issued in the afternoon, assured the public that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport is ready for Paeng.
Emergency services are on alert for any aircraft or structural emergency. The warehouse will be kept open for any need of supplies, and service vehicles and drivers at the motor pool are ready for dispatch anytime.
Food concessionaires at the airport have been requested to make available additional stocks in case passengers of delayed or canceled flights would opt to stay there.
Airlines were told to carry out safety protocols during severe weather conditions such as securing their ground equipment and evacuating aircraft to safer grounds, if necessary.
Ground handlers were urged to ensure maximum deployment of ramp and check-in personnel.
MIAA said affected foreign airline operators have employed planned cancellations. Passengers of these flights who are already at NAIA will be processed for rebooking and accommodation in hotels.
Local carriers have also employed planned cancellations and delays for the day. They will submit to MIAA their proposed retimings and schedule of recovery flights. MIAA has lifted the daily maintenance closure of the main runway to accommodate recovery flights.
MIAA, meanwhile, urged passengers to monitor flooding on roads and to closely monitor airline websites and social media pages before heading to the airport.
Here is the list of the canceled flights as of 3:20 p.m.:
