CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Five crew members were rescued while one is still missing when a barge ran aground in Barangay Bangan, Botolan, Zambales Sunday afternoon.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) substation commander Petty Officer 3rd Class Mar Marasigan said in a radio interview that three of the crew members were rescued at 7 a.m. Monday while the two others who were still inside the barge were rescued around 1 p.m.

Marasigan said search and rescue operation is still ongoing for the one missing.

He said the barge with six crew members was about to be brought to a safer place around 5 p.m. Sunday due to strong waves brought by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

However, the rope being used by the tugboat in pulling the barge was reportedly snapped. (PNA)
