MANILA – Weather disturbance Queenie weakened into a tropical depression on Tuesday, and is forecast to further weaken into a remnant low within 12 hours.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Queenie now packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It was last tracked 490 km. east of Davao City, or 425 km. east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Queenie is now forecast to cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Caraga and Davao Oriental.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

PAGASA said the hoisting of tropical cyclone wind signals over the eastern portion of Caraga and some areas in Eastern Visayas is unlikely.

In the next 24 hours, however, Queenie may cause moderate to rough seas over the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.

These conditions may be risky for those using small seacraft.

PAGASA advised mariners to take precautionary measures when venturing to sea, or avoid navigating in these conditions. (PNA)
