ERRACHIDIA – Morocco aims to double its dates production by 2030 to reach 300,000 tons per year, against 149,000 tons in 2021, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

This goal will be achieved through the implementation of the new strategy Generation Green 2020-2030 which provides, among other things, for the planting of 5 million plants, including 3 million at the traditional palm, the Ministry said in a document made public on the occasion of the International Dates Fair (SIDATTES 2022), held on Oct. 27-30 in Erfoud.

The declination of the 2020-2030 new Generation Green strategy for the development of the sector of date palm aims to continue the rehabilitation of the traditional palm grove and the extension of plantations outside the palm grove, the same source said.

It also aims to improve productivity, development of the value, increase exports and diversification of outlets, modernization of distribution channels and internal marketing, and the development of by-products of the date palm.

The Department of Agriculture provides, in this sense, the extension of the area outside the traditional palm grove of 14,000 Ha to reach 21,000 Ha, improving the rate of conditioning to reach 50 percent against 8 percent in 2020.

The Ministry has also set the goal of improving the rate of processing to reach 10 percent against 0.3 percent currently, and the promotion of exports to reach 70,000 tons, against 3,600 tons in 2020. (MAP)
