DUMAGUETE CITY – Hundreds of residents of Barangay Dahile in Mabinay, Negros Oriental are targeted to receive assistance from the government during a “Barangayanihan” (Bayanihan sa Barangay) activity set Friday.

Lt. Col. Roland Lavisto, chief of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO), said the undertaking was initiated by NOPPO in cooperation with the local government unit of Mabinay headed by Mayor Ernesto Uy.

“We have already resumed the Barangayanihan a number of times after the pandemic, the latest of which was held in Barangay Candabong, Manjuyod, as one of our strategies to contribute to the whole-of-nation approach in partnership with the provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC),” Lavisto said in mixed English and Cebuano.

He said it was the Mabinay mayor who requested that the “Barangayanihan” be held in the village of Dahile.

Government agencies expected to participate in the activity are the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Agrarian Reform, Philippine Information Agency, Philippine Army, and Bureau of Fire Protection, among others.

Lavisto said the provincial Agriculturist’s Office, Veterinarian’s Office, Health Office, and other local government departments have also been invited to participate and provide assistance and services, such as the distribution of seedlings and fertilizers, and vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The beneficiaries will also be given “loot bags” that contain rice, sardines, noodles, and liniment, he added. (PNA)
