Confirmed death toll due to Paeng now at 121: NDRRMC

MANILA – The total death toll from the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has reached 156, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said 121 of these deaths have been confirmed as due to the tropical cyclone.

The validated deaths include 63 from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM); 32 from Western Visayas; 20 from Calabarzon; three from Soccsksargen; two from Central Luzon and one from the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Meanwhile, out of the 35 deaths undergoing confirmation, 14 are from Calabarzon; five from Eastern Visayas; four from Zamboanga Peninsula; three each from Mimaropa and Cagayan Valley; two each from Bicol and Central Visayas and one each from Western Visayas and Soccsksargen.

In the same update, 141 persons were reported injured -- 94 of whom were validated while 28 out of a total of 37 missing persons have been confirmed.

The NDRRMC also said Paeng has affected 1,269,166 families or 4,623,408 persons residing in 9,481 barangays across the country.

Damaged houses were placed at 34,698, of which 31,558 are classified as "partially damaged" and 3,140 as "totally damaged".

The amount of damage to infrastructure and agriculture from the tropical cyclone has so far reached PHP4.3 billion and PHP3.09 billion, respectively. (PNA)
