TACLOBAN CITY – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said areas unaffected by recent calamities will not be left out in the distribution of financial assistance from the national government.

During the ceremonial distribution of various assistance at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte, Marcos said although provinces in Eastern Visayas have recovered from Super Typhoon Yolanda, several families are suffering from the adverse impacts of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Kahit na hindi tayo nasasalanta ng bagyo ay naghihirap pa rin ang ating mga kababayan dahil nandyan pa rin ang ekonomiya ng pandemya. Ang utos ko sa Cabinet secretaries ay patuloy ang pagtulong. Hindi kami aalis hanggang makita namin na kaya na ng mga tao na tumayo sa kanilang sariling mga paa (Even if we were unaffected by typhoons, our countrymen are suffering due to effect of pandemic in the economy. I ordered the Cabinet secretaries to continue lending help. We will stay until the people are back on their feet)," Marcos said in a gathering attended by key officials from the national government and local governments in the region.

Marcos led the distribution of cash aid to recipients of the rice farmer financial assistance program from the Department of Agriculture and a disinfection truck to the provincial government of Southern Leyte; cash to beneficiaries of the assistance to individuals in crisis situation program from the Department of Social Welfare and Development; aid to persons under the emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment.

He also led the distribution of laptops from the Department of Information and Communications Technology to recipients of the Department of Education’s Tech4ED Program; and an ambulance for the local government units under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health.

Recipients of these aids are local government units, farmers' groups, and individuals from different parts of the Eastern Visayas region.

“We are putting continuing assistance in our priority list, including the support to our small businesses… Ang sigaw natin nung kampanya na sama sama tayong babangon muli ay nagsimula na at sabay sabay at tuloy tuloy tayong babangon muli (Our call during the campaign to be united and to bounce back together has started) ,” Marcos added.

Before the ceremonial distribution, Marcos led the 9th commemoration of Super Typhoon Yolanda at the Holy Cross Memorial Gardens in Tacloban City where over 2,000 victims of the 2013 catastrophe were buried. (PNA)
