FEU spikers beat UP in V-League Men's Collegiate Challenge

MANILA – Far Eastern University defeated the University of the Philippines-Diliman, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 26-24, on Wednesday to keep its semifinal bid alive in the 2022 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena.

Zhydryx Saavedra scored 20 points on 14 spikes, four blocks, and two aces for the Tamaraws, who improved their win-loss record to 2-2.

Team captain Mark Frederick Calado came up with 13 attacks, four blocks, and one ace aside from making 10 excellent receptions and four excellent digs.

FEU head coach Rey Diaz said his team performed better.

"All we want is for us to progress every game, so today was better. The boys were also able to control their emotions when under pressure," he said after the one hour and 51 minutes match.

Ranz Wesley Cajolo finished with 15 attacks for the Fighting Maroons, which took their second straight and third loss in four outings.

Outside hitter Angelo Lagando chipped in 13 points while team captain Louis Gaspar Gamban had 12 attacks to go with six excellent digs and 22 excellent receptions.

Middle blocker Emmanuel Izus Advincula scored nine points, including three blocks while libero Johnlee Juntilla had 11 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs. (PNA)
