MANILA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday recognized the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for its valuable contributions to the success of implementing efforts to prevent violent extremism.

The recognition specifically pertained to DSWD’s involvement and performance as the lead agency of the Human Development and Poverty Reduction Cabinet Cluster (HDPRC) under the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NAP-PCVE).

The DSWD had served the very purpose of HDPRC in terms of translating the gains of good governance into means for improving the Filipino people’s overall quality of life.

As mandated, the DSWD’s efforts focused on investing and building opportunities in education, health, social protection, gender equality, and poverty reduction.

During the 1st National PCVE Summit held in Quezon City on Nov. 8-9, the DSWD was awarded a plaque of recognition and commendation by the DILG for its continuous support in ensuring the delivery of basic services to address poverty and other social protection concerns.

The summit was conducted to serve as a platform for convergence among PCVE implementers, including DSWD, towards sustaining gains, strengthening impact, and institutionalizing multi-stakeholder efforts on preventing and countering extremism.

The event was attended by national government agencies, stakeholders, civil society organizations, and representatives of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (PNA)
