MANILA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) commended the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for its invaluable support and meritorious contribution to the success of the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NAPP/PCVE).

In a statement on Friday, BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral assured that the bureau will continue to deepen its efforts to make every jail unit not only a physical but also an ideological stronghold, where no extremist ideologies can penetrate.

It is alarming, if you think about it, because PCVE is a matter of security, not only of the general population of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) but also of our staff who supervise them, of our facilities, and of the entire community),” Iral said.

Bahagi rin ito ng ating pananagutan sa bayan kaya naman mahalagang bigyan natin ito ng kaukulang puwang (This is also part of our responsibility to the people, so it is important that we give it the appropriate space),” he added.

BJMP deputy chief for administration Jail Chief Superintendent Ruel Rivera received the certificate of commendation during the Talaghay 2022: National PCVE Summit held in Quezon City on Tuesday.

During the summit, the BJMP presented the report of PDLs with terrorism-related cases and violent extremist offenders and its objective of strengthening and sustaining safety and security through conflict prevention and community resilience.

Embodying the whole-of-nation approach, the BJMP continues to partner with the appropriate government agencies in carrying out and further strengthening its PCVEI interventions, particularly in the deradicalization of PDLs. (PNA)
