BACOLOD CITY – Agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in northern Negros Occidental will soon receive individual titles to some 250 hectares of agricultural lands under the Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling (SPLIT) project of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

These validated areas include 181.27 hectares in Silay City; 38.59 hectares in Murcia; 15.84 hectares in Cadiz City; and 14.48 hectares in Escalante City covered through the DAR Negros Occidental I-North.

In a statement on Thursday night, DAR-Western Visayas Regional Director Sheila Enciso said the parcelization of lands will strengthen the land tenure security of the ARBs.

"Individual titling would encourage the ARBs to improve their lands more toward increased farm productivity and household incomes," she added.

In Murcia, the 38.59 hectares are subject to titling for 38 individuals while the 14.48 hectares in Escalante City are for 13 farmer-beneficiaries.

Previously, these 250.18 hectares of land have been covered by the collective certificate of land ownership awards (CCLOAs), which prevents the farmers from making the land productive.

The SPLIT project aims to subdivide the lands previously given to the ARBs through CCLOAs, which would eventually be re-awarded through individual titles to the farmers.

The issuance of the individual titles follows the completion of the validation process in the area, where identified beneficiaries affirmed their occupancy and tilling of the land.

Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III said in a statement the validation process is being implemented in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to improve the lives of the ARBs. (PNA)
