MANILA – Anti-narcotics operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) seized close to PHP252 million worth of suspected shabu from two suspects following a buy-bust in Cavite on Saturday.

Police identified the suspects as Datu Ali Dayo Sampulna, 38; and Almira Karao Sampulna, 30, both of Cotabato City.

In a statement on Sunday, PNP Drug Enforcement Group chief Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo said the suspects were arrested at 7:20 p.m. at Block 1, Lot 66, Happy Homes, Barangay Buhay na Tubig, Imus City.

The two, who will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022, yielded around 37 kilos of suspected shabu worth PHP251.6 million, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, assorted identification cards, and remittance receipts, Domingo said.

In Quezon City, members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized 500 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP3.4 million in another buy-bust in Barangay Bagong Pagasa, leading to the arrest of Mansawi Lala, 38.

Also seized from the suspect were PHP1,000 marked money and identification cards.

Anti-drug ride

Meanwhile, officials led by PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. joined biking enthusiasts on Sunday to mark the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.

“One with the DDB (Dangerous Drugs Board) in stamping out the illicit supply and demand for dangerous drugs. The police force supports the mission of drug abuse prevention and control in the country,” Azurin said in his welcome remarks before the kickoff of “Bisikleta Iwas Droga” at Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

The 24-kilometer ride ended at the Camp Crame parade grounds in Quezon City.

Azurin assured that the PNP is committed to intensifying measures against drug syndicates.

“By working together through a holistic, inclusive, and sustainable approach, we will tread on our defined path and raise the bar in building a crime-free, drug-free, and progressive Philippines,” Azurin said.

Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, was the guest of honor and speaker. (PNA)
