ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities arrested two persons and seized more than PHP1.3 million worth of illegal drugs in an anti-drug operation in Tawi-Tawi province, a police official said Monday.

Col. Richard Verceles, the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao operations chief, said Ridzman Muzarin, 32; and Rohit Abubakar, 23, were nabbed at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Pag-Asa of the island province’s capital town of Bongao.

Verceles said the suspects were nabbed after they handed over 50 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP340,000 and received the marked money from an undercover policeman.

Police also recovered from the suspects another 150 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP1,020,000 for a total of PHP1,360,000.

Also found in the duo’s possession were the PHP1,000 marked money and PHP240 cash believed to be drug money.

Verceles said one of the two suspects, who was seated on a motorcycle, tried to escape but was cornered by the cops.

The suspects, who have been placed under the custody of the Bongao police, will be charged with the violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
