MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Eric Tayag as undersecretary of the agency.

“Yes, Director Eric Tayag, we received the transmittal of his appointment yesterday,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a media briefing Tuesday.

Tayag is the current director of the DOH's Knowledge Management and Information Technology Systems bureau.

Previously, he served as spokesperson of the agency.

Vergeire said Tayag has yet to take his oath of office.

“We are still scheduling… Pinag-uusapan pa namin ngayon, ng aming mga officials kung saan namin siya appropriately, based on his capacity, i-a-assign para mas makatulong sa ating kagawaran (Our officials are still discussing where we can appropriately assign him, based on his capacity, to better help our department),” she said.

As for the office of Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan, Vergeire noted he is tasked to monitor the operations in the Visayas region as the Field Implementation Coordinating Team.

“I’ve specifically instructed him to look into, first, the vaccination coverage in the areas. Second, logistics management, to inventory all of our commodities specifically [the coronavirus disease 2019] vaccine,” she said.

"But of course, we also gave him the instruction na dapat maayos nya yung network ng ating mga hospital (to improve the network of our hospitals) from primary care to higher level care doon sa Region 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), and 8 (Eastern Visayas),” she added. (PNA)
