SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed three flood mitigation projects along the Agno River in barangays Salinap and Guelew, and along the San Juan River in Barangay Turac here.

In a statement issued on Thursday, DPWH 1 (Ilocos) Director Ronnel Tan said the PHP47.4 million flood control project in Barangay Salinap was completed on August 26, the PHP47.7 million project in Barangay Guelew on September 8, and the PHP19.1 million project in Barangay Turac on September 2.

Tan said the projects were funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2022.

“With the presence of the slope protection works, difficulties experienced by the residents of San Carlos City and nearby municipalities caused by high water levels during the rainy season will be eased,” Tan said.

He said these would also protect the farm crops, enabling the communities to grow economically and improve productivity.

“The prevention of soil erosion, which contributes to downstream flooding in the vicinity, is another benefit of these projects,” he said.

Rady de Guzman, a resident of San Carlos City, said the projects would “greatly help” them as these would benefit not just the residential areas but more so, the farmers in their community.

Mahirap kasi pag baha, maraming maapektuhan pero sana itong projects na ito ay mapipigilan na talaga ang pagbaha dito sa amin (It is difficult with flooding as many are affected but with these projects, hopefully flooding would be totally prevented),” he said in an interview. (PNA)
