MANILA – The Terrafirma Dyip put an end to the second-longest losing streak in the history of the Philippine Basketball Association after taking down the NLEX Road Warriors in overtime, 124-114, in their Commissioner's Cup game on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Already out of contention to make the quarterfinals, Terrafirma played spoiler to NLEX's own bid as the latter's own slump continues although they had a chance to steal the win.
The Road Warriors came back from 10 points down even as Earl Clark got past Drei Cahilig for a layup that eventually forced overtime with 31 seconds left in regulation.
They even had two shots at stealing the win, but Clark missed a mid-range shot and Don Trollano misfired from long range.
Terrafirma took advantage of NLEX's missed chances at the end of regulation by pouncing on them for most of the overtime session.
Lester Prosper led the Dyip, who finally won after a 25-game losing streak, four less than the league record of 29 set by the Blackwater Bossing from 2020-2022, and a 0-9 start to the conference with 50 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, and one block.
Juami Tiongson came close to a triple-double with 18 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists with one steal.
Clark finished with 45 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal, while Trollano added 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Road Warriors, who lost for the fifth straight time to drop to 3-7.
Brandon Rosser chipped in 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal, and Matt Nieto almost got a triple-double too with nine points, nine rebounds, and nine assists with one steal. (PNA)
