FEU spikers beat San Beda in V-League Collegiate Challenge

MANILA – Far Eastern University (FEU) prevailed over San Beda University, 25-17, 25-16, 25-19, in the women's classification round match of the V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Friday.

Outside hitter Mitzi Panangin was the best scorer for the Lady Tamaraws with 10 attacks and one block. Alyzza Galle Devosora finished with two blocks, one ace and nine excellent digs.

"I would like to commend the ladies for a doing a good job in the game because they put in too much hard work during our one week training, we only had one day rest," said head coach Cristina Salak after the one hour and 12 minutes match.

In the other classification game, University of Santo Tomas defeated San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15, to arrange a meeting with FEU for fifth place. San Beda University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos will dispute seventh place.

Opposite Camille Victoria led the Golden Tigresses with eight attacks and two aces, while outside hitter Ysabel Jamie Jimenez and opposite Mary Christine Escalla chipped in six points apiece.

Ma. Cassandra Carballo delivered three aces and 10 excellent sets while outside hitter Ypril Jyrhine Tapia scored five attacks to go with nine excellent digs.

"We'll finish this on a high note. Even if we didn't enter the Final Four, at least, we we'll get the fifth. The reason why we're participating here is to learn," said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes.

Meanwhile, JM Tropia scored 10 spikes and two blocks to lead Adamson University to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 victory over San Sebastian in the men's classification round. Jude Christian Aguilar contributed eight attacks, two blocks and one ace. (PNA)
