UP settles for 9th place in V-League Men's Collegiate Challenge

MANILA – University of the Philippines pulled off a 25-15, 25-19, 25-23 victory over Adamson University in the classification round on Sunday to finish ninth in the 2022 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Outside hitter Louis Gaspar Gamban scored 14 points to go with eight excellent receptions and four digs while Ranz Wesley Cajolo also delivered 14 points for the Fighting Maroons, who finished the elimination round with a 1-4 record. Jaivee Malabanan contributed 10 and nine points, respectively.

Jadewin Gudoy had nine points while Marc Kenneth Paulino scored eight points as the Soaring Falcons settled for 10th place.

“I told the players that our progress is based on each game but we're happy that they were exposed to this kind of competition," UP head coach Rald Ricafort said after the match.

UP and Adamson finished the elimination round with similar 1-4 records in their pools.

UP rallied past College of St. Benilde, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-11 while Adamson survived College of St. Benilde, 25-21, 28-26, 23-25, 25-16 for their respective first wins. (PNA)
