LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started the implementation of the PHP11.2 million cash-for-work program for persons with disability (PWDs) in eight towns and two cities in the Bicol Region.
In an interview on Monday, Ranelle Anne Sertan, DSWD-5 social marketing officer, said the undertaking is under the DSWD's Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program.
"A total of 3,260 individuals started to work over the weekend (Nov. 19), and for 10 days, they will be employed. The work or the job description of the workers will be depending on the identified work by their respective local government units (LGUs)," Sertan said.
She also said the cash-for-work is specifically intended for households with at least one PWD.
"If the PWD cannot do the work, a family member will represent to be a beneficiary of the program but if the PWD member can still work, he or she is very much welcome. Each of the beneficiaries will get a PHP345 daily wage for the duration of the period identified for the project," she said.
The PWD-beneficiaries are those who are affected by disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sertan said the payout for the workers will be on Dec. 3 as part of the celebration of the International Day of PWDs.
The identified beneficiaries are from Guinobatan, Libon, and Tabaco City in Albay province; Bato, Bombon, Libmanan and Iriga City in Camarines Sur and the town of Castilla, Gubat and Pilar in the province of Sorsogon.
Aside from the eight towns and two cities, Sertran said other municipalities are also set to be included as qualified beneficiaries of the program.
The KALAHI-CIDSS cash-for-work is one of the newest modalities in implementing the community-driven development approach which aims to empower communities to be more participative, transparent, and accountable in implementing government programs. (PNA)
