MANILA – Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel recently intercepted a female Cameroonian who presented a fake passport while processing a visa extension at their office in Taguig City.

In a statement Tuesday, BI SM Aura Satellite Office chief Evita Argene Mercader reported the interception of 31-year-old Irene Lekeayi Nyiwung last Nov. 18.

Mercado said BI personnel noticed major inconsistencies in the passport of the foreigner, which was then submitted to the BI’s forensic documents laboratory for verification.

It was confirmed that the passport submitted by Nyiwung was fraudulent.

Nyiwung was turned over to the BI’s intelligence division for further investigation and booking.

She will be temporarily held at the BI’s facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings.

On the other hand, Commissioner Norman Tansingco acknowledged the action of immigration officers and reminded them to stay vigilant in processing applications.

“These fraudsters still attempt to use fake documents to dupe immigration personnel. However, our front-liners are highly skilled in document inspection, so these types of fraud will definitely be caught,” he said. (PNA)
