BACOLOD CITY – As part of its PHP28 billion 10-year development project in The Upper East township in this city, Megaworld Corp. will invest PHP2 billion to build Kingsford Hotel Bacolod, the property giant’s hotel brand, in the next five years.

“We are finally bringing the Kingsford Hotel brand here in Bacolod. Just our second one after Kingsford Hotel Manila,” Cleofe Albiso, managing director of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, announced during a media event at the Lanai by Fresh Start on Tuesday night.

The groundbreaking for what will soon become the largest hotel in Bacolod, offering almost 300 rooms, will be held in 2023 while the opening will be scheduled for 2028.

Albiso said Megaworld Hotels and Resorts wants to help boost Bacolod’s position as a “very attractive” MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) location.

“We are bringing the best to Bacolod because we have a very sophisticated market here. We are building this hotel that will hopefully match the requirements of the very discerning business travelers,” she added.

Albiso shared that the 12-story Kingsford Hotel Bacolod, which will rise between the four residential condominium towers inside the 34-hectare township, will be built with “first in Bacolod” amenities and features.

She said it would feature a unique and iconic design that blends its modern glass architecture with a podium, showcasing neoclassical architecture.

“This will certainly be another iconic landmark for The Upper East and even for the entire City of Bacolod because of its unique architecture that truly stands out when you pass by Upper East Avenue,” she said.

Harold Geronimo, vice president and head of public relations and media affairs of Megaworld Corp., said a statue of the Masskara dancer would be mounted at the top of the hotel’s façade as a nod to Bacolod as home to the world-renowned Masskara Festival held in October each year. (PNA)
