PH Army wrestlers dominate National Wrestling Open

MANILA – The Philippine Army's wrestling team dominated the National Wrestling Open, earning medal finishes, including gold in several events.

Army spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said Army wrestlers bested other athletes from the Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, as well as professional wrestlers from Singapore, Russia, and the US at the event hosted by the Wrestling Association of the Philippines, Inc. at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna from Nov. 26-27.

"Cpl. Ronil Tubog also clinched the gold medal in the 63-kilogram Freestyle while Pfc. Excel Tubog placed fourth in the 67-kilogram Greco Roman," he added.

Sgt. Noel. Norada and Sgt. Michael Cater ruled the 64-kilogram and 57-kilogram Greco-Roman styles, respectively.

On the distaff side, Cpl. Mary Joy Cacal finished the 57-kilogram Freestyle in second place while Cpl. Bemayla Bernas clinched the silver medal in the 60-kilogram Freestyle.

Their teammate, Pfc. Smael Trazona, earned silver medal in the 15-kilogram Greco-Roman. (PNA)
