MANILA – Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday asked Malacanang to make labor policies that would respond to the growing clamor of workers for wage hikes and more stable jobs.

Hontiveros said serious government interventions are needed to address the growing concerns of the public amid the impacts of the pandemic and the looming world recession.

“I think it is an urgent matter that we heed the calls of labor groups. Extraordinary ang epekto ng pandemya sa ekonomiya natin. Sa huling Pulse Asia survey, ito din naman ang mga nangungunang alalahanin ng mga kababayan natin. Kailangan na talaga ng seryosong (The impact of the pandemic on our economy is extraordinary. In the last Pulse Asia survey, these are also the top concerns of our countrymen. It really need something serious)government interventions,” Hontiveros said in her statement.

She said there must be a comprehensive plan to help workers cope with inflation.

The Senator earlier called on Malacanang to convene its Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council and line up its priority legislation that would include wage hikes and the creation of more jobs. (PNA)
