MANILA – The Association of Firearms and Ammunitions Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD) held the 28th Defense and Sporting Arms Show at the SM Megamall Trade Hall in Mandaluyong City on November 24-28.

Senate Committee on Peace and Order chairman Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was the special guest during the opening of the event featuring more than 40 booths that displayed the best line of imported and Philippine-made firearms, ammunition, and paraphernalia.

Dela Rosa commended the AFAD for organizing the annual arms show and educating the public on responsible gun ownership.

“I'm grateful to AFAD for organizing this one-of-a-kind arm(s) show. AFAD is a trustworthy and distinguished organization. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Peace and Order, I am willing to support their plans and program for the good of the industry,” he said.

Seminars and educational programs on self-defense, responsible gun ownership, firearms safety handling and regulations were also conducted by the AFAD during the exhibit.

AFAD president Hagen Topacio, a silver medalist in the men's individual trap event at the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games in May, thanked dela Rosa for gracing the opening of the arms show.

“The show was a blockbuster and the people were eager to meet Senator Bato dela Rosa. The AFAD membership is always looking for programs and activities that will benefit the industry in general,” Topacio said.

He won the country's first silver medal at the 2015 Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait where he set a new national record in the trap event. (PNA)
